A Bar/Bat Mitzvah marks the beginning of a child's lifelong adult connection to the Jewish people. Voices of Hope's Bar/Bat Mitzvah Program is an increasingly popular way to strengthen a child's identification with his or her Jewish heritage by forging bonds with Holocaust Survivors who weren't able to have a Bar/Bat Mitzvah during the Holocaust. I have the honor of meeting with a Holocaust survivor, Bea Israel, who did not have a Bat Mitzvah when she was 12 due to the Holocaust, but had one later on in life. In addition, I am participating in the Yad Vashem Bat Mitzvah Twinning program and will be matched up with a child who was murdered during the Holocaust and was not able to have a Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
