Daughter of Auschwitz: My Story of Resilience, Survival and Hope
Join us for our December Power of Words Series program with Tova Friedman, author of Daughter of Auschwitz: My Story of Resilience, Survival and Hope.
Tova Friedman spent her time as a toddler in a Jewish ghetto in Central Poland until she and her parents were sent to a Nazi labor camp when she was four. She was almost six years old when she and her mother were sent to Auschwitz II (Birkenau) and was one of the camp’s youngest survivors and one of only a small number of Jews who entered a gas chamber and escaped with her life.
In her memoir, written with award-winning former war reporter Malcolm Brabant, Tova shares her experiences with the world to honor the victims who were silenced. Tova believes she has a responsibility to keep the history alive, especially at a time when it is in danger of being forgotten. "I am a survivor. That comes with a survivor's obligation to represent one and a half million Jewish children murdered by the Nazis. They cannot speak. So I must speak on their behalf."
